Berkeley Outdoors, a locally owned and operated marine dealership in South Carolina, has an immediate opening for an experienced and qualified Marine Service Technician at their Columbia (SC) location. The Marine Service Technician will be responsible for providing top-notch service to customers in furtherance of Berkeley Outdoors’ commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate would have years of verifiable mechanical experience (marine experience preferred) and would be motivated to complete quality work in a timely manner. Marine certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities:
General repair of new and used boatsDiagnose, service and repair outboards, I/Os and inboards
Utilize computer diagnostic equipment for various marine engine and system applications
Troubleshoot, repair and install electrical accessories
Hauling, launching, loading and unloading boats with boat trailers
Handle multiple work orders and prioritize as needed
Additional responsibilities as needed within the Service Department or company
Requirements:
Prior Marine Service Technician/Mechanical experience (4+ years preferred)Mechanical experience (7-9+ years preferred)
Marine experience (preferred)
5+ yrs Experience/Certification in Yamaha, Mercury, and/or Suzuki (preferred)
Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service boats and related marine equipment
Familiarity with marine tools and uses
Technical degree, certification, or other degree (preferred)
Possess strong attention to quality work and detail
Possess professional oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Be able to work in indoor/outdoor environment
Be able to stand for long periods of time
Be physically capable of bending, stooping, crouching, twisting, lifting, etc.

Responsibilities:
- Assist customers by phone, internet, and in person with scheduling of boat and off-road vehicle service and sales of parts and accessories
- Ascertain problems with units by listening to customer’s description and determining best method for repair/replacement
- Verifies warranty coverage by examining records and papers and appropriately explaining provisions and exclusions
- Submits warranty claims to manufacturer and orders parts needed to fulfill warranty claim service
- Develops estimates by costing materials, supplies, and labor and calculating customer’s payment to include deductibles
- Prepares repair orders by describing problems and causes discovered as well as repairs and services required
- Maintains customer rapport by explaining estimates and expected return of unit and maintaining contact with customer to provide frequent service status updates
- Assist with sales of in-stock parts and accessories as well as placing orders for items not in-stock
- Consult with Service Technicians and management regarding repairs and possible alternatives to expensive work
- Follow-up with customers after unit is picked up to ensure no additional problems with repairs are experienced
- Participate in all sales events as needed
- Additional responsibilities within the Parts and Service Department, or company, as needed
- Prior Parts and Service Advisor experience (2 or more years preferred)
- Prior marine/off-road vehicle experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of Marine Parts and Accessories
- Ability to work Saturdays (bi-weekly)
- Familiarity with estimating, repair orders, and warranty processes
- Possess strong attention to quality work and detail
- Possess professional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate equally well with mechanics, customers, and management

- Order parts for Service Department as needed and in absence of Parts Manager
- Ensure parts are in-stock and ordered as needed
- Maintain accurate records of sales and orders
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and professional Parts Department
- Additional responsibilities as needed within the Parts Department or company
- Prior parts counter experience (1 or more years preferred)
- Marine experience (preferred)
- Ability to work Saturdays (bi-weekly)
